In 1963, the area
where Cokesbury United Methodist Church serves had no Methodist church.
With
much prayer, thought and action, a few dedicated people began meeting at
the Dorothy Hains School on Windsor Spring Road. In June 1963, Rev. Julian Brackman began serving as Cokesbury's
first assigned minister.

Groundbreaking for the first church building was in 1966. This was followed by moving into an Army barracks building for Sunday school and fellowship. These buildings are still in use. Cokesbury continued to grow, and in 1987 the congregation agreed a larger sanctuary was needed. Groundbreaking took place Dec. 24, 1990. On Jan. 12, 1992, the congregation moved from the old sanctuary into the present sanctuary. The old sanctuary now serves as the Fellowship Hall.
Through many loyal, dedicated people, Cokesbury has won many victories, accomplished much, and will continue to grow. We are known as "the caring church."
As Romans 8:28 reads, "We know that in everything God works for good with those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose."
